Cricket is the most popular sport in India and some would even see it as a religion in the country. If you’re looking for one of the best online cricket betting sites, look no further! Our expert guide will cover where to make a cricket bet, different bet types, betting strategies, IPL betting, and more!
Bet on the team that you think will win the match. The odds tend to differ depending on the teams playing and the circumstances of the game, such as injuries, travel times, recent play history etc.
Similarly, you can bet that the match will end up tied. Test cricket has 3 possible results to a match – Team A wins, Team B wins, or the match ends in a draw. In a drawn/tied match, there is no outright winner. This result is rarer than outright match wins, so may offer better odds to entice you to make the bet.
In test cricket, if both innings teams end up on the same score, or if 2 innings are not completed, it is called a tie/draw.
However in limited overs cricket, like a one day international or a T20 match, a tied match is extremely improbable because both teams have to end up at the exact same score. Usually, we advise against betting on ties for this kind of game.
A series of matches between two teams is a common feature of cricket. The Ashes, for example, is a series of 5 test matches played between England and Australia. You can bet on one of the teams to win the overall series.
Whether test cricket or limited overs, the number of matches played is decided before the series start. Many times the series will have an even number of matches, in which case the series is ‘tied’ if an equal number of matches is won on both sides.
Similar to a series winner bet, an outright winner wager can be placed on any team that is participating in a tournament, such as the ICC World Cup. In IPL betting, the outright winner wager is incredibly popular.
With many teams to choose from at the majority of cricket events, this can be tricky to get right, especially compared to the match or series winner betting, where it comes down to a choice between just two teams. Having said that, as there are more teams to pick from than the previous two wagers, the odds become bigger and ensure a larger profit on winning bets.
Predict whether runs will be either ‘over’ or ‘under’ a certain number. This kind of betting is popular in other sports such as basketball and American football, and is gaining popularity in cricket.
For example, let’s say the betting site offers even odds on a team to finish under 250 runs, or over 250 runs at the end of 50 overs. You can bet on either ‘under’ or ‘over’. Note that if the team finishes on exactly 250, both bets are won by the bookie.
Similarly, you can bet on the total number of runs that will be scored from the present delivery/over.
Bet which player (from either team) will score the most runs during the course of either an innings, a match, a series or even a tournament. As it is difficult to predict who ‘clicks’ on the day, payouts for a winning bet are usually quite high.
Similar to the top batsman wager, the top bowler requires a prediction of which player will take the most wickets during the course of an innings, a match, series or a tournament. Again, it is usually difficult to predict, and so the odds can be good.
Each cricket match has a ‘man of the match’ award which is chosen by a predetermined panel. Most of the time it is given to the most impactful player during the course of the game. It may could be the person who scores the highest number of runs or takes the most wickets, for example.
As previously mentioned, there are different types of cricket games for you to bet on! Here are the most popular kinds:
Test cricket is the type of cricket with the longest match duration, and is considered the game’s highest standard. A standard day of test cricket consists of three sessions of two hours each, the break between sessions being 40 minutes for lunch and 20 minutes for tea.
Today, test matches are scheduled to be played across five consecutive days. Test cricket is played in innings (the word denotes both the singular and the plural). In each innings, one team bats and the other bowls (or fields). Ordinarily four innings are played in a Test match, and each team bats twice and bowls twice. Spread over such a long time, there are various opportunities and incidents for betting both ahead of time, and when the game is in play. One can also strategise patiently in test cricket.
A One Day International (ODI) is a form of limited overs cricket, played between two teams. Each team faces a fixed number of overs (50), though this may be adjusted for each match according to weather delays and other stoppages.
The team batting first sets the target score in a single innings. The innings lasts until the batting side is ‘all out’ (10 of the 11 batting players are out), or all of the first side’s allotted overs are completed. Each bowler is restricted to bowling a maximum of 10 overs. The team batting second tries to score more than the initial target score in order to win the match. Similarly, the side bowling second tries to bowl out the second team or make them exhaust their overs before they reach the target score in order to win. If the number of runs scored by both teams is equal when the second team loses all its wickets or exhausts all its overs, then the game is declared a tie (regardless of the number of wickets lost by either team).
In a Twenty20 game (also known as T20), the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. A typical T20 game is completed in about three hours, with each innings lasting around 90 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. This is much shorter than previous forms of the game, and is closer to the timespan of other popular team sports. It was introduced to create a fast-paced game that would be attractive to spectators at the ground and viewers on television.
If the match ends with the scores tied and there must be a winner, the tie is broken with a one-over-per-side Eliminator or Super Over. There is separate betting for the super over.

What we love
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) had no inclination to be part of the World T20 back in 2007, and made a last minute decision to enter the competition in South Africa. With a depleted side void of the big superstars of Indian cricket, against all odds the team went on to win the tournament. The year after India’s triumph in the tournament, the IPL was launched. Cricket in India was never the same again, as many of the world’s best cricketers became a part of the league and the country became the capital of world cricket. IPL matches are almost always played in front of full houses and they have made cricket the most-watched game in the country.
The league has grown rapidly in value. The IPL as a whole was valued by financial experts at US $4.16 billion in 2016, but that number grew to $5.3 billion in 2017, and $6.13 billion in 2018. A report from Duff & Phelps said that one of the contributing factors in the rapid growth of the value of the IPL was signing a television deal with Star India Private Limited which engaged more viewers due to the fact that the IPL was transmitted to regional channels in 8 different languages.
There have been thirteen seasons of the IPL tournament since 2008. Currently there are 8 IPL teams/franchises, with a maximum of 9 teams in previous years. The most successful team in the IPL has been the billionaire-owned, Mumbai Indians, who have won it 5 times. IPL betting is incredibly popular, and the vast majority of India-facing sportsbooks offer it.
The 2020 Indian Premier League was the thirteenth season of the IPL, a professional Twenty20 cricket (T20) league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The tournament was originally scheduled to commence on 29 March 2020, but was suspended until 15 April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The BCCI suspended the tournament indefinitely. However due to popular demand and co-operation by the UAE government, the ‘Dream 11 IPL’ was re-scheduled to start On 2 August 2020. it was announced that the tournament would be played between 19 September and 10 November 2020 in the United Arab Emirates.
Mumbai Indians were the defending champions and they successfully defended their title following a 5 wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the final on 10 November 2020. Pat Cummins was the most expensive player with a ₹15.5 crore price tag purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders. Jofra Archer from England was the player of the tournament.
As ever, the IPL Auction 2021 threw up some interesting surprises. Big money was rolled out for foreign players. Chris Morris moved to the Rajasthan Royals for 16.25 crore, and became the most expensive player ever purchased in an IPL auction. Other big names included Glenn Maxwell moving to RCB for 14.25 crore, while Kiwi youngster Kyle Jamieson (15 crores) moved to RCB as well and Moeen Ali made the switch from RCB to Chennai for 7 crores. RCB were the big-spenders on the day and there were some other eye-catching purchases, such as veteran Harbhajan Singh getting another deal and Arjun Tendulkar (son of Sachin) being snapped up by his father’s former side, the Mumbai Indians.
IPL 2021 kick-starts in Chennai on 9th April 2021. After 56 league matches, the top four teams go into the qualifiers with the final to be played on 30th may 2021 at Ahmedabad. If you’re looking for a season preview of the top IPL picks, here is what our expert had to say on each team and their form:
There seems to be a few issues to address in this team. MS Dhoni will surely be around for another season, but it may be the last we’ve seen of the likes of Shane Watson or Kedar Jadhav because they’ll need to get in a few fresh faces and younger legs. A lot of older players seem to have been retained and age may be a factor in the searing Indian heat. Even just making the playoffs would be seen as a decent result for the Super Kings.
A team in the final last time round, they were let down by their star-studded batting line-up, bar Shikhar Dhawan. But they have an excellent bowling duo in South African Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje assisted by some high-class Indian spinners.
If the batsman can support the bowlers, they will surely be in the firing line. It seems they should definitely make the play-offs at least this season.
It was a real rollercoaster of a season in 2020 with a slow start followed by a brilliant run of wins late on, but still the Kings fell short. It will be fascinating to see if they bring back veteran Chris Gayle, who was so influential in those late-season wins. It’s hard to predict this side and much will depend on skipper KL Rahul, but with a few good additions to the team, they could sneak into the final four.
There are some game changers in the team like Pat Cummins, Morgan and Shubman Gill, but the ever impactful Andre Russell carries on struggling. It could be touch and go as to whether they qualify for the playoffs, but the celebrity owner seems to inspire them to achieve beyond their capabilities, so we’ll withhold judgement just yet.
The MI franchise is probably the strongest team on paper and should emerge as the outright favourite to retain the IPL title. They did win the 2020 IPL pretty comfortably and they’ll be very much the team to beat again.
Last year they made too many changes to the team over the course of the season. They fell short tactic-wise and bowling looks weak too. Until they bring in one or two bowlers who can change games, they look set to miss out on the playoffs once again. RCB managed to qualify last time, but this could be a season of real struggle.
Not highly rated. Last year’s wooden spoon winners and a side who permanently seems to be struggling. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were decent, but they just always seem to lack enough quality Indian players in their ranks. They would do well to avoid yet another rock bottom finish.
The team found their form at the back end of last season, but the same problems persist – namely the lack of a strong middle-order and match-winning fast bowlers. Rashid Khan and David Warner are match winners in their own right, but is that enough? Another side for whom it’s 50/50 as to whether they can get out of the group stages.
The 2021 IPL begins 9th April 2021. If you’re looking to start IPL betting before the season begins, the most popular bet you can make is on the outright winner of the league. Here are the most up-to-date odds from bet365.

Look at the following criteria when selecting the best IPL betting site for you:
The first thing to look for in a betting site is a legitimate license. Sportsbooks should offer payment security certificates too, including being verified by Visa or MasterCard. We would suggest that you choose a betting site which makes use of secure domains and is SSL encrypted.
If you choose a site recommended at Gamble Online, you can be assured that it is safe and secure. All the sportsbooks we recommend are licensed and regulated by universally-recognised third-party auditors, such as the Malta Gambling Authority.
The payment procedure is a crucial aspect of your overall gambling experience. A good number of banking options is important. The withdrawal process is often been a problem for players online, and so it is also important to ensure that the site you choose makes withdrawals quick and easy. You can speed them up by being ready with the documents needed to verify your account. We also recommend that – if possible – you verify your account before depositing any money, just to be safe.
Most of us are sceptical about amazing new deals offered on the internet, but generous bonuses are a primary feature of a good betting site. It is important to consider a bookmaker’s promotions and offers before choosing one. Find out about the latest offers and bonuses, how often they change, and if they’re available to long-term customers. For help and advice finding great bonuses, read our full sportsbook reviews.
Go through the terms and conditions of the bonuses carefully to avoid problems with future monetary transactions. A trustworthy betting site will have great deals for new and returning customers.
The time and accuracy of the response provided by an online cricket betting site is one of the most important factors to consider. Most betting sites have the provisions of a live chat feature through which customers can connect with the company and reach out for help easily. The way in which a betting company responds to public complaints is also quite insightful.
If you’re new to betting on cricket, take the time to ease yourself into it. You’ll want to start by wagering smaller amounts of money on some of the more basic wagers. As you advance and gain confidence, you can then begin to dabble with some of the more complex bets. To be successful in online cricket betting, you must be watchful of the types of bets you make. The Indian Premier League will be played in India again in 2021. The 2020 season was played in UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is likely that in-person attendance will be incredibly limited if allowed at all this season.
The IPL season usually runs from April – June. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season was postponed and eventually played September – November, but the 2021 season is expected to begin in April as usual. However, the IPL betting season runs year round!

The Mumbai Indians who have won the title 5 times are currently the favorites at most IPL betting sites.
The IPL was founded in 2007. Since then, the Mumbai Indians have won the league five times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) and make the finals six times. However, the Chennai Super Kings have also been very successful. While the Super Kings have only won the league three times (2010, 2011, 2018), they have reached the finals a whopping eight times.
There are three teams who’ve yet to win the IPL, the Kings XI Punjab, the Delhi Capitals and the Royal Challengers. However, don’t count them out! The Kings XI Pubjab were the league runners up in 2014, and the Delhi Capitals took 2nd place in 2020. The Royal Challengers have been incredibly unlucky – they’ve been the runners up three times (2009, 2011, 2016).
If you’re looking for livestreaming, we’d highly recommend bet365. They were one of the first sportsbetting companies to offer livestreaming, and the service now works on desktop and mobile. They also offer fantastic all-round IPL betting odds.
